This past weekend my family and I went to Pokagon, a state park in Northern Indiana. The weather was perfect: no wind, sunny skies, and lots of snow. We spent the night at the Lodge located in the park; it was rustic but fun!
The lodge is set up as a conference and family center, so there are multiple fireplaces and lounges located throughout the building. There are also small tables sporting puzzles sprinkled throughout the hallways and lounges.
A main attraction for my family and me was the toboggan run. It is located quite close to the lodge, and it offers two tracks that run side by side. Tobogganing on this refrigerated track will spike your adrenaline. A speedometer by the side of the track flashes your speed as you zoom past-my all time high was 37 mph.
After tobogganing we went cross country skiing in the park. Pokagon rents the skis, boots, and poles, though the service was slow. I had never been cross country skiing and I discovered that I loved it! Aside from tobogganing and skiing, Pokagon has a plethora of trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding. The lodge itself is situated on a lake, and there are many beaches and playgrounds that visitors can use during the warmer months. This is a view of the lodge from the rear, if a person is standing by the lake:
At the end of the trip, I left slightly worn out and satisfied. Now my only quest is to find some used cross country skiing equipment. Anyone wish to sell women's cross country skis size 7?
